Our Story

Hey there, and thank you for dropping by.

We are, Day Out At, a family of explorers who packed up their lives in the UK to travel and explore the world.

Travel has always been a passion of ours, and before we became parents, myself and my husband both lived and worked abroad (that is how we met). We both valued that time so much, as it taught us so many life skills that you do not get in a classroom and made us grow as individuals.

After dating for a while, our relationship was getting serious, and it was no longer an option to continue the lives we had, so decided make ourselves a home in the UK and start our family. We still took every opportunity to travel, once or twice a year, especially before school started and before our holidays were restricted to term time for quadriple the price!!!!!

Anyone raising a family, working a 9-5, running a household, knows how much it takes its toll. Not to mention the full time job of answering emails from the school, trying to remember every non-uniform day, world book day, and the after school activities. It feels like time just runs away from you. The week goes by so quickly, and then the weekend hits and you have so much housework to catch up on!!

(Have you ever watched the Adam Sandler film 'Click', where he fast forwards bits in his life and then wakes up one day and has missed all the important things. Thats how we felt... just existing.)

Not getting the quality time we wanted with the family, and we couldn't see a way out.

Then the pandemic hit! Which was a hard few years for everyone.

For us, it completely turned our lives upside down. Our job situations changed, and we lost some loved ones along the way. It completely changed us, our mindset, and our priorities in life. That is when we decided to pack up our lives, de-register from the school system and go travel the world. It made us realise that Life is for LIVING!!! You only get one go around this rock (two sentences I say on a daily basis!) That is how we have ended up here!

But let’s be honest - travelling with kids isn’t always smooth sailing. We’ve learned to embrace both the chaos and the magic. We have decided to share our experiences, the reality of homeschooling, the ups and downs of family travel. It is also a great way for us look back on our memories, in years to come when we are old and grey and reminisce on our memories.

In addition to our love for exploration, we’re big fans of all things fun - from a Day Out At a theme park riding the roller coasters (yes, we are that family who can’t get enough of Disney), to outdoor adventures and exciting day trips.
